New Matter Devices

This week, several new Matter devices were announced, including the Shelly Flood S Gen4, a budget-friendly leak sensor that supports both Matter and Zigbee. The Govee Strip Light 2 also added Matter support, improving its white lighting capabilities. These new devices demonstrate the growing adoption of Matter in the smart home industry.

For shoppers, this means more options when choosing devices that work with their preferred smart home platform, such as Samsung SmartThings or Home Assistant. With Matter, users can connect devices from different companies using a single protocol, making it easier to integrate devices across manufacturers.

Matter Certification

The Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA) has published a guide on navigating Matter certification, highlighting the changes and best practices for succeeding in the certification process. This guide is essential for manufacturers looking to certify their devices and ensure integration with other Matter devices.

The CSA has also emphasized the importance of Matter certification, which enables devices to work together seamlessly and provides users with more flexibility and choice in their smart home devices.

Matter Releases and Updates

The release includes over 1,900 commits, with key focal areas such as architecture, new and extended subsystems, low power, and modernization and security.

The update also includes the introduction and stabilization of Groupcast, Camera/WebRTC, and PushAV Stream Transport, as well as Energy Management/EVSE/Water Heater clusters. These updates demonstrate the ongoing development and improvement of the Matter protocol.

Industry Insights

Alliance Member mui Lab's Munehiko Sato, Chief Experience Officer and Matter TIG Chair for the Japan Interest Group, discussed how Matter is simplifying smart home connectivity by making it easier to integrate devices across manufacturers. This simplification is a significant benefit for users, who can now connect devices from different companies using a single protocol.

Samsung SmartThings' Daniel Moneta and Osama Shehzad also highlighted the benefits of Matter, including giving users more flexibility and choice in the products they bring into Samsung SmartThings. This increased flexibility is a key advantage of the Matter protocol.
